Mary Fitzpatrick is 71 and has lived in Dumfries all her life. She took up watercolour painting in recent years and specialises mainly in painting flowers. Mary studies the work of other artists by visiting all the latest exibitions with her friend, (also called Mary) and by collecting books on her favorite Impresionist artists, Monet and Van Gough to admire and leaf through for ideas.

Mary has a natural talent for what is a difficult medium to control and has her own unique style. Along the way she has also picked up some tips from local artists, Jack Skinner and Melville Brotherstone (at there art classes) and from June, another friend who enjoys painting.

Mary regularly attends Gracefield Art Center to participate in Jack's art class and meet friends for coffee.

Holidays have provided insperation for Mary. The leaf print was made from leaves found around Oasis holiday village near Penrith.

Mary keeps a book about flowers so that she gets the names right and some of them are a bit of a mouthful!

One of Mary's paintings is exhibited at Key Housing Association's Head Office in Glasgow.
